Variety Splash - Participants & Cost

Participants & Cost

It's easy to be part of the 2011 Variety Splash...

To be involved in this exciting event you simply need to own a boat and put a team together.

Each team is then required to raise the minimum entry fee of $6000 (inc GST).

The only other expense is a nominal catering fee of $550 (inc GST) per person which covers the cost of all meals throughout the event.

Tax Deductibility

Monies donated to Variety the children’s charity are generally tax deductible provided they qualify as unfettered donation: that is, the donor can prove they have received no value in return for the donation. Similarly, an unfettered donation with small acknowledgement on the Splash vessel would normally be deductible. Sponsorship of vessels by companies being generally associated with advertising space on the vessels or promotional activity undertaken by the vessel would normally be deductible and attract a GST component.

  1. Sponsors and entrants should accordingly be aware that the following are not deductible as donations.
  2. Participants Fees - GST included - this includes meals, public liability, Splash DVD, Splash merchandise and Ambulance cover etc.
  3. Accommodation costs
  4. Vessel purchase, preparation, maintenance and running costs
  5. Travel costs

There are a number of rules regarding the conduct of entrants in Variety Splash. These rules are there to protect the reputation of the Splash and Variety the children’s charity.  This is necessary as the Splash relies on the good will of local authorities and communities to continue raising money for children with special needs around Australia.  Any incident that damages the reputation of the Splash harms the children who depend on Variety.

These rules are simple and commonsense. It is up to Participants/Teams to police the conduct of each team member. The below rules are viewed most seriously. Breaches will result in the ejection of the participant/team from the Splash. Also, the participant/team may not be invited to participate in future Variety events.

  1. All participants must act within the Rules of the Law
  2. All participants must abide with the Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing
  3. All participants must abide by the Rules or directions set or instructed by the Organiser
  4. All participant must behave in an appropriate manner as deemed fit by the Organiser
  5. The carrying of banned or illegal items is prohibited
