Variety Splash - Fundraising Water Event

VARIETY SPLASH 2011

The 2011 Variety Splash has been launched - with the three day event following a new course in 2011 - Docklands to Queenscliff; Queenscliff to Mornington; Mornington to Sandringham - to cater for growing participation in the popular event!

The Variety Splash is similar in style to the infamous Variety Bash, where the focus is firmly placed on having fun. As with all Variety events, the Splash too has a serious side. Its primary objective is to raise money for children in our community with a wide range of special needs.

By taking part in this wonderful social event, not only will you have the time of your life but also you will be instrumental in helping bring sunshine into the lives of many very special children.

The Variety Splash is a three day rally on Port Phillip and is open to all sail and power boats, commencing at Waterfront City, Docklands, with as evening ‘Welcome’ function on Thursday 24th February 2011.

The following morning sees Splashers embark on the first leg taking participants to Queenscliff Harbour, where they will enjoy an ‘on the dock’ party and an evening of fine food, entertainment and great company.

The second leg will take Splashers across the bay to Mornington Yacht Club, possibly with a stop for lunch en route. Make sure you pack your disco gear, because that night it’s time to dress up and let your hair down.

On the final morning, a lazy breakfast will be enjoyed followed by a leisurely approach to Sandringham Yacht Club, where a relaxed afternoon ‘finishing line’ BBQ will signal the end of another Variety Splash.

It is hoped that the 2011 event will raise approximately $150,000 for Special Needs Children. Included in the 300 participants will be sailors, power boaties, corporate and private teams. They will come from all walks of life such as boat owners, recreational boaters, office workers, business owners and retirees, all dedicated to transforming the lives of these special children.

To get involved all you need to do is secure a boat, gather a team and set yourselves a fundraising goal. Catch the ‘Bash’ spirit and challenge your team to be amongst the top fundraisers. Remember each small donation adds to your goal and the Variety Splash team are here to support you in your efforts.

Testimonials

“I just wanted to write and say thankyou to everyone involved in the Splash 2010. We were very excited to get the phone call from HeartKids inviting us to attend on Thursday. Both my boys (Thomas and HeartKid William) and I had a fantastic day! We found ourselves on Biddy-Hu-II with the most wonderful crew. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and I was extremely impressed with the way Paul got the boys involved in the workings of the yacht.
The whole experience was wonderful. Thanks for all the wonderful work that Variety do in raising funds for children like William and other important community needs. It is such an important thing for so many different people and also for William who will require several major heart surgeries through his life. It is a nice way to get out and forget about those things such as hospital visits and tests. Thanks for a wonderful day Paul, Jodie & crew and also to Variety.”

“We would like to think that the third time we would be lucky weatherwise. But Mother Nature was again playing with 'Team Laafin!' To reach our destination at Docklands for the 2010 Variety Splash we left Newhaven at 3.40am on Saturday and only had three hours of calm weather! This was our third year of participating in the Variety Splash and all members of the team were happy and proud to again be part of this event.
Together as a team, we managed to raise close to $10,000 for Variety, the children's charity. Over the last three years, Team Laafin has donated over $28,000 to Variety. We are coming back in 2011, with the aim to achieve above our record of $10,300. As a very small team, we are extremely proud of our achievement.”
